Sparrow Barstool

$800 — wood seat $900 — upholstered Fabric or leather upholstery is selected through our quote process.

The Sparrow Barstool is built around a single decision: that every connection should be legible. Where the back post meets the seat, a notched interlocking joint locks the two together — structural logic made visible. Four sculpted legs splay outward and taper toward the floor, tied at mid-height by a continuous footrest ring. The seat is round. The backrest is low and wide. Nothing is hidden, and nothing is excessive.

Available in five American hardwoods, finished in Rubio Monocoat.

The base is four-legged, each leg sculpted along its length before angling gently outward at the floor. The form is architectural without referencing historical precedent — the silhouette comes from the geometry itself. The footrest ring ties the base at mid-height, adding lateral strength and a resting position that reads as part of the design rather than an afterthought.

The seat is round, slightly contoured, and finished to the same standard on every surface including the underside. The joinery where the back post enters the seat is the piece's signature detail: a notched receiver integrated into the seat's rear edge accepts the post with a precision fit that's visible from behind and reinforced by the geometry of the post itself. In walnut and cherry, opposing grain directions through the joint make the connection readable as craft. In ebonized ash, the same detail reads as pure form.

All surfaces are finished with Rubio Monocoat — a plant-based, zero-VOC hardwax oil that penetrates the wood rather than coating it. The surface remains matte and tactile to the touch. Each finish is species-matched and hand-applied at KHEM's Hudson Valley studio.

The Sparrow is available with an upholstered seat in fabric or leather, selected in collaboration with KHEM through our quote process. The upholstered version retains the same solid hardwood frame and Rubio Monocoat finish throughout; the seat becomes a material conversation between wood and textile or hide.

Designed and produced at KHEM Studios in the Hudson Valley, New York.

Wood + Finish Options

Walnut — Warm chocolate tones with open, expressive grain. Rubio Monocoat oil deepens the natural color while keeping the surface matte and touchable.

Ebonized Ash — Near-black finish that reads grain as texture rather than color. The ash substrate gives the surface more depth than a painted finish.

White Oak — Pale, tight-grained hardwood with quiet figure. Rubio Monocoat in a natural tone preserves the wood's cool, understated character.

Cherry — Warm amber with fine, consistent grain. Cherry deepens with light exposure over time — the piece develops naturally in your space.

Bleached Maple — The lightest finish in the collection. Rubio Monocoat in bone brings out maple's fine, even grain while keeping the surface pale, clean, and matte.
